In 2020, the global plastics market generated roughly USD 580 billion in revenues with more than a third of that total coming from sales into the packaging market. While consumer packaging applications account for the largest segment, plastics touch virtually every sector of the global economy. Industrialization of plastic products has improved food safety and enabled advances in health care, but the risks to this value chain are building as consumers and regulators are increasingly focused on the build-up of plastic waste plaguing our planet.
